Wetlands are vital ecosystems that support a diverse array of plant and animal species, playing a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity. However, wetlands worldwide face threats from human activities, leading to degradation and loss of these valuable habitats. Wetland restoration has emerged as a key conservation strategy to reverse these trends and enhance biodiversity conservation efforts. This thesis focuses on the assessment of the effectiveness of wetland restoration in biodiversity conservation, aiming to evaluate the outcomes of restoration initiatives and their impact on the richness and abundance of species within restored wetland habitats. The study begins with an introduction providing background information on the importance of wetlands and the threats they face, highlighting the need for restoration interventions. The problem statement outlines the challenges associated with wetland degradation and the gaps in our understanding of restoration outcomes. The objectives of the study are to assess the success of wetland restoration projects in enhancing biodiversity, identify factors influencing restoration effectiveness, and provide recommendations for improving restoration practices. A comprehensive review of the literature is conducted to examine existing knowledge on wetland restoration, biodiversity conservation, and the factors influencing restoration success. The literature review covers topics such as the ecological functions of wetlands, the benefits of biodiversity conservation, restoration techniques, and the role of community engagement in restoration projects. The research methodology section details the approach taken to assess the effectiveness of wetland restoration, including data collection methods, site selection criteria, and data analysis techniques. Field surveys are conducted to assess species diversity and abundance in both restored and reference wetland sites, providing quantitative data on the impact of restoration efforts on biodiversity.
