The management of waste in urban areas is a critical issue that requires sustainable solutions to address environmental, social, and economic challenges. This thesis presents an assessment of sustainable waste management practices in urban areas, focusing on strategies to reduce waste generation, promote recycling and reuse, and minimize the environmental impact of waste disposal. The study investigates current waste management practices in urban areas, identifies challenges and opportunities for improvement, and explores innovative approaches to enhance sustainability in waste management. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, including background information on waste management in urban areas, the problem statement highlighting the need for sustainable practices, the objectives of the study, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definitions of key terms. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review, examining existing research and theories related to sustainable waste management practices, waste generation trends, recycling initiatives, and the environmental impacts of improper waste disposal. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology employed in this study, including the research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, and data analysis procedures.
