Abstract
Urban development poses significant challenges to biodiversity and ecosystem services, necessitating the integration of green infrastructure to mitigate environmental impacts and promote sustainability. This thesis focuses on assessing the effectiveness of green infrastructure in urban development for enhancing biodiversity and ecosystem services. The study investigates the role of green infrastructure in urban settings, its impact on biodiversity, and its potential to enhance ecosystem services. A mixed-methods approach combining qualitative and quantitative research methods is employed to analyze data collected from urban areas with varying degrees of green infrastructure implementation. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, outlining the background, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure, and key definitions of terms. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review that explores existing knowledge on green infrastructure, urban biodiversity, and ecosystem services. This chapter synthesizes previous research findings, identifies gaps in the literature, and establishes a theoretical framework for the study.
