This thesis explores the portrayal of women in 19th-century British literature through a comparative analysis. The study delves into the representation of women in selected literary works from the 19th century, examining how female characters were depicted by different authors during this historical period. The research aims to provide insights into the roles, attributes, and stereotypes associated with women in literature of the time, shedding light on the societal attitudes towards women prevalent in the 19th century. The introduction sets the context for the study, discussing the significance of examining the portrayal of women in literature and the relevance of studying 19th-century British literature in this regard. The background of the study provides a historical overview of the societal norms and cultural perspectives that influenced the representation of women in literature during the 19th century.
