This thesis examines the portrayal and exploration of postcolonial themes in Contemporary African Literature. The study delves into the ways in which African writers have engaged with and represented the legacy of colonialism in their works, focusing on the complexities, challenges, and nuances of postcolonial experiences. Through a comprehensive analysis of selected literary texts, this research seeks to shed light on how African authors have grappled with issues of identity, power, representation, and cultural hybridity in the postcolonial context. The introductory chapter provides a background to the study, outlining the significance of examining postcolonial themes in African literature. It presents the problem statement, research objectives, limitations, scope, and significance of the study. The chapter concludes with an overview of the structure of the thesis and key definitions of terms used throughout the research. Chapter two consists of a literature review that critically engages with existing scholarship on postcolonial theory, African literature, and relevant thematic concerns.
