Mental health issues are prevalent in our society, yet they remain stigmatized and often misunderstood. This thesis aims to explore the portrayal of mental health issues in contemporary African literature, shedding light on how African writers address and represent these complex issues in their works. Through a comprehensive analysis of selected literary texts, this study seeks to investigate the various ways in which mental health is depicted, understood, and navigated in the African literary landscape. The introduction sets the stage by highlighting the importance of addressing mental health in literature and the specific focus on African perspectives. The background of the study provides a context for understanding the historical and cultural factors that shape the portrayal of mental health in African literature.
