This thesis investigates the portrayal of gender roles in contemporary African literature, focusing on the representation of gender dynamics, stereotypes, and power relations within the context of African societies. The study delves into a selection of modern African literary works to analyze how authors depict gender roles, challenge traditional norms, and explore the complexities of gender identity in the African context. Through a combination of literary analysis and sociocultural interpretation, the research aims to shed light on the diverse ways in which gender is conceptualized and represented in African literature. The introduction provides an overview of the research topic, highlighting the significance of studying gender roles in African literature and outlining the objectives of the study. The background of the study contextualizes the research within the broader field of African literary studies and gender studies, emphasizing the relevance of exploring gender dynamics in contemporary African writing.
