Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. Social media has become an integral part of contemporary society, with adolescents being one of the most active user groups. The study will explore how the use of social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat influences the mental well-being of teenagers. The research will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data. The survey will assess the frequency and duration of social media use, as well as the types of content consumed and interactions engaged in by adolescents. Additionally, the qualitative interviews will provide valuable insights into the subjective experiences and perceptions of teenagers regarding social media and its impact on their mental health. Several theoretical frameworks will guide the research, including social comparison theory, self-esteem theories, and the social cognitive theory of mass communication. By drawing on these frameworks, the study aims to elucidate the mechanisms through which social media affects adolescents' mental health outcomes. Furthermore, the research will investigate potential moderating factors such as gender, age, and existing mental health conditions to provide a nuanced understanding of the relationship between social media use and mental well-being. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the existing literature on the topic by offering empirical evidence on the impact of social media on adolescent mental health. The results may have implications for parents, educators, mental health professionals, and policymakers involved in supporting the well-being of young people.
