Abstract
The research project investigates the impact of social media on mental health among teenagers. Social media platforms have become an integral part of daily life for many young people, providing opportunities for communication, self-expression, and information sharing. However, concerns have been raised about the potential negative effects of excessive social media use on mental health, including increased feelings of anxiety, depression, loneliness, and low self-esteem. This study aims to explore the relationship between social media usage patterns and mental health outcomes in teenagers. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative survey data with qualitative interviews to gain a comprehensive understanding of how social media influences the mental well-being of adolescents. The quantitative component will involve administering standardized questionnaires to a large sample of teenagers to assess their social media habits, mental health symptoms, and perceived social support. Statistical analyses will be conducted to identify patterns and correlations between social media usage and mental health indicators. In addition to the quantitative data, qualitative interviews will be conducted with a subset of participants to gather in-depth insights into their experiences with social media and mental health. These interviews will allow for a nuanced exploration of the ways in which social media impacts teenagers' emotional well-being, relationships, and sense of self. Thematic analysis will be used to identify common themes and patterns emerging from the interview data. The findings of this research project are expected to contribute to the existing body of literature on social media and mental health, shedding light on the complex interplay between online communication and psychological well-being in adolescents. By examining both the quantitative and qualitative aspects of social media use, this study aims to provide a more holistic understanding of the ways in which social media can impact teenagers' mental health. The results of this research may have implications for mental health interventions and policy development aimed at promoting positive online experiences and supporting the well-being of young people in the digital age.
