Abstract
The research project focuses on exploring the impact of social media on mental health among teenagers. In recent years, the rise of social media platforms has significantly influenced the way adolescents communicate, interact, and perceive themselves and others. This study aims to investigate the relationship between social media usage and mental well-being in teenagers, considering factors such as self-esteem, body image, cyberbullying, and overall psychological health. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data. The quantitative aspect of the study will involve administering standardized questionnaires to assess the frequency and duration of social media use, as well as measuring various mental health indicators such as stress, anxiety, and depression levels. These surveys will be distributed among a diverse sample of teenagers to ensure a representative population. Statistical analysis will be conducted to examine correlations between social media engagement and mental health outcomes. In parallel, qualitative interviews will be conducted to delve deeper into the subjective experiences of teenagers regarding social media and its effects on their mental well-being. Through open-ended questions and thematic analysis, this qualitative component aims to capture the nuances of how social media influences self-perception, relationships, and emotional states among adolescents. By triangulating the quantitative and qualitative findings, this research seeks to provide a holistic understanding of the complex dynamics between social media use and mental health in the teenage population. Furthermore, the study will explore potential protective factors and coping mechanisms that teenagers employ to mitigate the negative impacts of social media on their mental health. Understanding these resilience factors can inform interventions and support strategies aimed at promoting positive mental well-being in adolescents amidst the pervasive influence of social media. The findings of this research are expected to contribute valuable insights to the fields of psychology, adolescent health, and digital media studies, shedding light on the intricate interplay between social media engagement and mental health outcomes in teenagers. Ultimately, this project underscores the importance of fostering a balanced and healthy relationship with social media among young individuals to safeguard their psychological well-being.
