Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among young adults. Social media has become an integral part of daily life for many individuals, especially among the younger generation. The widespread use of platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat has raised concerns about their potential effects on mental health. This study will explore how social media usage patterns, such as frequency of use, types of content consumed, and interactions with others, may influence mental well-being. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather data from a diverse sample of young adults. Quantitative data will be collected through online surveys to assess social media usage habits and mental health indicators. Qualitative interviews will provide deeper insights into the subjective experiences and perceptions of participants regarding the relationship between social media and mental health. The study will also examine potential moderators and mediators of the relationship between social media use and mental health outcomes. Factors such as self-esteem, social support, and comparison tendencies will be explored to better understand the mechanisms through which social media may impact mental well-being. By identifying these factors, the research aims to provide a more nuanced understanding of the complex interplay between social media and mental health. The findings of this research project are expected to contribute to the existing literature on social media and mental health by offering insights into the specific ways in which social media use may influence the psychological well-being of young adults. The results may have implications for mental health interventions, social media policies, and digital literacy programs aimed at promoting healthy online behaviors. Overall, this study seeks to shed light on the complex relationship between social media and mental health among young adults.
