Abstract
This research project investigates the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. The study aims to explore how the use of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat influences the psychological well-being of teenagers. A mixed-methods approach will be utilized to gather both quantitative and qualitative data to provide a comprehensive understanding of the issue. The quantitative aspect of the research will involve surveying a diverse sample of adolescents to assess their social media usage patterns and mental health status. Various standardized scales will be employed to measure variables such as depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and social comparison. Statistical analyses will be conducted to identify potential correlations between social media usage and mental health outcomes. In addition to the quantitative data, qualitative interviews will be conducted with a subset of participants to gain more in-depth insights into their experiences with social media and its effects on their mental well-being. Thematic analysis will be employed to identify common themes and patterns in the qualitative data, which will complement the quantitative findings. The research aims to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the relationship between social media and mental health, particularly among adolescents. By exploring both the positive and negative aspects of social media use, this study seeks to provide a nuanced understanding of how these platforms can impact the psychological health of young people. The findings of this research project have the potential to inform strategies for promoting healthy social media habits among adolescents and developing interventions to support those who may be experiencing mental health difficulties related to their online activities. Ultimately, the goal is to raise awareness about the potential risks of excessive social media use and to advocate for the responsible and mindful use of these platforms among teenagers. Overall, this research project addresses an important and timely issue concerning the well-being of adolescents in the digital age. By shedding light on the complex interplay between social media and mental health, this study aims to contribute to a more informed and proactive approach to supporting young people in navigating the challenges of the online world.
