Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. Social media usage has become ubiquitous among adolescents in recent years, with platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat being the most popular choices. While social media offers various benefits such as connecting with friends, sharing experiences, and accessing information, it also raises concerns about its potential negative effects on mental health. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach to explore the relationship between social media use and mental health outcomes among adolescents. Quantitative data will be collected through surveys to assess the frequency and duration of social media use, as well as mental health indicators such as stress, anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. Qualitative data will be gathered through interviews to gain a deeper understanding of how social media influences adolescents' mental well-being. The research will focus on a sample of adolescents aged 13-18 years from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. The findings will provide insights into the patterns of social media use among adolescents and its impact on their mental health. By examining both the positive and negative aspects of social media, the study aims to contribute to a better understanding of how adolescents can navigate social media in a way that promotes positive mental health outcomes. The results of this research can have implications for various stakeholders, including parents, educators, mental health professionals, and social media companies. Understanding the impact of social media on adolescents' mental health can help in developing strategies to promote healthy social media use and mitigate potential negative consequences. By raising awareness about the potential risks associated with excessive social media use, this study can inform interventions and policies aimed at supporting adolescents' mental well-being in the digital age.
