Abstract
This research project investigates the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. The study aims to explore the relationship between social media usage and various mental health outcomes, including depression, anxiety, and self-esteem among teenagers. A mixed-methods approach will be utilized, incorporating both quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to provide a comprehensive understanding of the subject. The quantitative data will be collected through a survey distributed to a sample of adolescents, assessing their social media habits and mental health status. The qualitative component will involve in-depth interviews with a subset of participants to gain deeper insights into their experiences and perceptions. The research hypothesizes that excessive use of social media will be associated with higher levels of depression and anxiety, as well as lower self-esteem among adolescents. It also aims to investigate potential moderators and mediators of this relationship, such as social support, online bullying, and the role of parental involvement. By examining these factors, the study seeks to uncover the mechanisms through which social media impacts mental health outcomes in adolescents. The findings of this research have important implications for understanding the complex interplay between social media and mental health in today's digital age. By identifying the specific ways in which social media use can influence adolescents' well-being, this study can inform strategies for promoting healthier online behaviors and supporting mental health among young people.
