Abstract
The research aimed to investigate the impact of social media usage on mental health among adolescents. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including a quantitative survey and qualitative interviews with a sample of 300 adolescents aged 13-18. The quantitative survey revealed a positive correlation between excessive social media use and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Additionally, qualitative interviews provided insights into the ways in which social media contributes to feelings of inadequacy, social comparison, and cyberbullying among adolescents. The study highlights the need for parents, educators, and mental health professionals to be aware of the potential negative effects of social media on adolescent mental health and to provide support and guidance in navigating online spaces.
