Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the impact of social media usage on mental health among young adults. The study will focus on the relationship between the amount of time spent on social media platforms and the levels of anxiety, depression, and self-esteem among individuals aged 18-25. A mixed-methods approach will be employed to gather data, including surveys to collect quantitative data on social media usage patterns and mental health indicators, as well as interviews to gain deeper insights into the participants' experiences. The research will explore the potential negative effects of excessive social media use on mental health, such as increased feelings of inadequacy, fear of missing out, and social comparison. It will also investigate whether certain types of social media activities, such as passive scrolling or active engagement, have different impacts on mental well-being. Additionally, the study will examine how individuals perceive their own mental health in relation to their social media habits and whether they believe there is a connection between the two. By analyzing the data collected, the research aims to provide valuable insights into the complex relationship between social media usage and mental health outcomes. The findings of this study can potentially inform interventions and strategies to promote healthier social media habits and improve mental well-being among young adults. It is crucial to understand the impact of social media on mental health, especially among the younger population who are heavy users of these platforms, in order to address any potential negative consequences and support positive mental health outcomes.
