Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among teenagers. With the increasing popularity and usage of social media platforms among adolescents, concerns have been raised regarding its potential negative effects on mental well-being. The study will explore how various aspects of social media, such as excessive use, cyberbullying, and comparison with others, can contribute to mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem in teenagers. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys to gather statistical data on social media usage patterns and mental health indicators, along with qualitative interviews to delve deeper into the experiences and perceptions of teenagers regarding their social media habits and mental health. By analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data, the study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between social media and mental health in teenagers. Furthermore, the project will also investigate potential protective factors or positive uses of social media that could enhance mental well-being among teenagers. By identifying strategies or interventions that can promote positive interactions and mitigate the negative impact of social media, the research aims to provide valuable insights for parents, educators, mental health professionals, and policymakers to support the mental health of teenagers in the digital age. Overall, this research project seeks to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the complex interplay between social media and mental health among teenagers. By shedding light on the mechanisms through which social media influences mental well-being and exploring potential avenues for promoting positive mental health outcomes in adolescents, this study aims to inform future research directions and interventions aimed at fostering a healthier relationship between teenagers and social media platforms.
