Abstract
The primary aim of this study is to investigate the impact of the play way method of teaching and concept formation on the learning of the English language in primary schools. The study is grounded in the belief that traditional rote memorization methods may not be as effective in promoting deep understanding and retention of language concepts compared to more interactive and engaging approaches like the play way method. The research will be conducted in primary schools, focusing on students in the early elementary grades who are in the process of acquiring foundational language skills. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative assessments of language proficiency with qualitative observations and interviews to gain a comprehensive understanding of the effects of the play way method on concept formation in English language learning. Through the implementation of play-based activities, games, and interactive exercises, the study aims to evaluate how children's engagement and motivation in learning English are influenced by the play way method. By creating a stimulating and enjoyable learning environment, the research seeks to promote active participation, critical thinking, and social interaction among students, which are essential components of language acquisition and concept formation. The findings of this research are expected to contribute valuable insights to the field of language education, particularly in the context of primary school settings. By exploring the effectiveness of the play way method in enhancing concept formation in English language learning, the study aims to provide evidence-based recommendations for educators and policymakers seeking to improve the quality of language instruction and student outcomes in primary schools. Overall, this study seeks to bridge the gap between theory and practice in language education by investigating the practical implications of employing the play way method to facilitate concept formation in English language learning. By promoting a more engaging and interactive approach to teaching, the research aims to support the development of effective pedagogical strategies that can enhance students' language proficiency and overall learning experience in primary schools.

Thesis Overview

The study of the play way method of teaching and concept formation on the learning of English Language in Primary Schools in Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has been carried out in this study. The study shows that play is a way children learn and are avenues for language practice. Through the play way method, the learner is offered the opportunity to understand the concepts of the target language and enables learners to participate actively during lessons. Three hundred copies of questionnaires were constructed based on two research questions and two hypotheses were distributed and collected.

Questionnaire based on the research questions were constructed, distributed and collected. The results from the questionnaire were analyzed. Discussion of findings based on the analyzed using the simple percentage, mean rating and Chi-square test of independency were made by the researchers. It was therefore concluded that play way method and concepts formation are essential in the learning of English Language.

There should be more effective teaching of English Language with greater emphasis on acquisition of language skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing. This is because the acquisition of English Language depends of how the pupils are drilled in these skills. There should be language laboratory in each primary school where such essential facilities like television, radio, tape recorders, recorded speeches, etc. can be used under good supervision.
