Abstract
This thesis investigates the impact of social media on language evolution and communication patterns in contemporary society. The rapid proliferation of social media platforms has revolutionized the way individuals interact and communicate, influencing the development and evolution of language. This study aims to explore how social media usage shapes language use and communication practices, examining the various linguistic changes, trends, and patterns that have emerged as a result of online interactions. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, presenting the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and the definition of key terms. The chapter establishes the foundation for the study, highlighting the importance of investigating the relationship between social media, language evolution, and communication patterns. Chapter Two consists of a comprehensive literature review that examines existing research on the influence of social media on language evolution and communication patterns. The literature review covers ten key themes, including the impact of social media on language structure, vocabulary, communication styles, linguistic creativity, online discourse, language standardization, linguistic diversity, language change, sociolinguistic implications, and digital communication practices. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology employed in this study, detailing the research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, data analysis procedures, and ethical considerations.
