Abstract
Co-operatives have long been recognized as a powerful economic and social tool for promoting sustainable development, particularly in rural communities where traditional business models may not be as effective. This thesis explores the impact of co-operative business models on sustainable development in rural communities. The study aims to investigate how co-operatives can contribute to economic growth, social well-being, and environmental sustainability in rural areas. The research begins with a comprehensive review of the literature on co-operatives, sustainable development, and rural economies. This background provides a theoretical framework for understanding the potential benefits and challenges of implementing co-operative business models in rural communities. The methodology chapter outlines the research design, data collection methods, and analysis techniques used in this study. A mixed-method approach combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews with key stakeholders in rural co-operatives is employed to gather data on the impact of co-operative business models on sustainable development indicators such as income generation, social cohesion, and environmental conservation.
