Abstract
This thesis examines the impact of co-operative societies on rural economic development, focusing on their role in promoting sustainable growth and empowerment within rural communities. Co-operatives have been recognized as a vital tool for fostering economic development, particularly in rural areas where access to resources and opportunities may be limited. Through a comprehensive literature review and empirical analysis, this study aims to provide a deeper understanding of how co-operative societies contribute to the economic development of rural areas. The research begins with an introduction that outlines the background of the study, identifies the problem statement, and sets out the objectives of the research. The study also discusses the limitations and scope of the research, highlighting the significance of the study in shedding light on the role of co-operatives in rural economic development. The structure of the thesis is then presented, providing a roadmap for the subsequent chapters. Chapter two presents a detailed literature review that explores existing research on the impact of co-operative societies on rural economic development. The review covers various aspects such as the historical context of co-operatives, theoretical frameworks, and empirical studies that highlight the positive effects of co-operatives on rural communities.
