Co-operatives have long been recognized as key players in local economic development, fostering community empowerment, social inclusion, and sustainable growth. This thesis presents an in-depth analysis of the impact of co-operative enterprises on local economic development. Through a comprehensive literature review, this study explores the theoretical foundations of co-operatives, their historical evolution, and the various ways in which they contribute to economic development at the local level. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, outlining the background, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure, and key definitions used throughout the thesis. Chapter Two presents a detailed literature review, covering ten key aspects related to co-operative enterprises and their impact on local economic development. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology employed in this study, including research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, data analysis procedures, and ethical considerations. The chapter also discusses the limitations of the methodology and strategies employed to mitigate potential biases. Chapter Four presents the findings of the study, highlighting the significant impacts of co-operative enterprises on local economic development.
