This thesis investigates the impact of co-operatives on sustainable development in rural communities, focusing on how these entities contribute to economic, social, and environmental progress. The study explores the role of co-operatives in fostering community empowerment, enhancing livelihoods, and promoting inclusive growth. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative data analysis with qualitative insights from interviews and case studies. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research, presenting the background, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, and structure of the thesis. Chapter Two offers a comprehensive literature review, examining existing studies on co-operatives, sustainable development, and rural economies. The chapter identifies ten key themes that underpin the relationship between co-operatives and sustainable development.
