Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Urbanization and population growth have led to an increase in impermeable surfaces, resulting in challenges for urban drainage systems. The traditional approach to urban drainage has often focused on managing stormwater through conventional infrastructure, leading to issues such as flooding, water pollution, and erosion. In response to these challenges, there has been a growing interest in sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) that aim to mimic natural hydrological processes and enhance ecosystem services. This thesis presents an analysis and design of sustainable urban drainage systems to address the shortcomings of conventional urban drainage systems. The study begins with a comprehensive review of existing literature on urban drainage systems, focusing on the principles and benefits of sustainable urban drainage systems. The literature review also examines case studies of successful SUDS implementations and identifies key factors influencing the effectiveness of these systems. The research methodology employed in this study includes a combination of quantitative analysis, hydrological modeling, and GIS-based spatial analysis to assess the performance of sustainable urban drainage systems in mitigating stormwater runoff and improving water quality.
