Abstract
This thesis investigates the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) principles and practices in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through a detailed case study analysis. The study aims to provide insights into how TQM can be effectively applied in the context of SMEs to enhance organizational performance and competitiveness. The research methodology employed a qualitative approach, utilizing interviews, surveys, and document analysis to gather data from a selected SME operating in the manufacturing sector. Chapter 1 introduces the research by presenting the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms. Chapter 2 provides a comprehensive literature review covering ten key areas related to TQM in SMEs, including the principles of TQM, benefits and challenges of TQM implementation in SMEs, and best practices for successful TQM adoption. Chapter 3 outlines the research methodology, detailing the research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, data analysis procedures, and ethical considerations. The chapter also discusses the selection criteria for the case study SME and the rationale behind using a single-case design. Chapter 4 presents a detailed discussion of the findings from the case study analysis, focusing on the current TQM practices within the SME, challenges faced during TQM implementation, strategies employed to overcome these challenges, and the impact of TQM on organizational performance. Finally, Chapter 5 offers a conclusion and summary of the thesis, highlighting key findings, implications for practice, and suggestions for future research.
