Abstract
Chest radiography is one of the most commonly performed diagnostic imaging procedures in medical practice. The postero-anterior (PA) chest radiograph is a standard projection used to evaluate the lungs, heart, and other structures within the thorax. However, the quality of the PA chest image is highly dependent on the positioning of the patient and the technique used by the radiographer. Proper positioning and technique are essential to ensure optimal image quality and accurate interpretation by radiologists. This research project aims to evaluate compliance with standard postero-anterior (PA) chest techniques in a clinical setting. A retrospective analysis of PA chest radiographs performed over a six-month period will be conducted. The study will focus on assessing the positioning of patients, exposure factors used, and overall image quality. Compliance with standard protocols recommended by professional radiology organizations will be compared to the actual practices observed in the clinical setting. The methodology will involve the review of patient records and radiographic images by experienced radiographers and radiologists. Each image will be evaluated for proper patient positioning, centering of the x-ray beam, exposure factors, and overall image quality. Any deviations from standard protocols will be documented and analyzed to determine the frequency and potential impact on diagnostic accuracy. The findings of this study will provide valuable insights into the current practices of PA chest radiography in the clinical setting. By identifying areas of non-compliance with standard techniques, recommendations can be made to improve the quality and consistency of PA chest images. This, in turn, can lead to more accurate diagnoses and better patient outcomes. Overall, this research project will contribute to the ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of diagnostic imaging in healthcare settings. By evaluating compliance with standard PA chest techniques, we can identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to ensure that patients receive the highest quality care. The results of this study will have implications for radiology practice, education, and quality assurance programs aimed at optimizing patient care and safety.
