The adaptive reuse of historic buildings presents a unique challenge in the field of architecture, requiring a delicate balance between preserving the heritage value of the structure and integrating modern functionalities. This thesis explores the various aspects involved in the adaptive reuse process, focusing on strategies that harmonize the preservation of historic buildings with the need for contemporary functionality. The study begins with an examination of the background of adaptive reuse and the significance of preserving historic structures in the built environment. The problem statement highlights the challenges and complexities inherent in adapting historic buildings to meet modern requirements while maintaining their cultural and historical integrity. The objectives of the study are to analyze successful adaptive reuse projects, identify best practices, and propose guidelines for achieving a balanced approach to preservation and modernization. The limitations of the study are acknowledged, including constraints related to available resources, time, and access to specific case studies.
