Urban areas worldwide are facing significant challenges in revitalizing their industrial heritage sites to meet the evolving needs of society. This thesis explores the concept of urban regeneration through the adaptive reuse of industrial heritage sites as a sustainable approach to urban development. The study investigates the potential of repurposing these sites to create vibrant, mixed-use environments that preserve historical significance while contributing to economic growth, social cohesion, and environmental sustainability. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, presenting the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and key definitions. The chapter sets the foundation for understanding the importance of urban regeneration and the adaptive reuse of industrial heritage sites in contemporary urban planning and development. Chapter Two conducts a comprehensive literature review, examining existing theories, concepts, and case studies related to urban regeneration, adaptive reuse, industrial heritage preservation, and sustainable urban development. The review synthesizes key insights and best practices from academic research and real-world projects to inform the research methodology and analysis in subsequent chapters.
