Abstract
The advancement of mobile technology has revolutionized various sectors, including agriculture, by enhancing the delivery of extension services to rural communities. This thesis aims to assess the impact of mobile technology on agricultural extension services in rural communities. The study examines how mobile technology facilitates the dissemination of agricultural information, improves communication between extension agents and farmers, enhances access to market information, and promotes sustainable agricultural practices in rural areas. The research methodology employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews with farmers, extension agents, and other stakeholders in selected rural communities. The data collected were analyzed using statistical tools and thematic analysis to identify patterns, trends, and key findings related to the impact of mobile technology on agricultural extension services. The findings reveal that the use of mobile technology has significantly improved the efficiency and effectiveness of agricultural extension services in rural communities. Farmers reported increased access to timely and relevant agricultural information, improved communication with extension agents, and enhanced market linkages through mobile platforms. Additionally, mobile technology has enabled the adoption of innovative farming practices, leading to increased productivity and income among rural farmers. However, the study also identified several challenges and limitations, including limited network coverage, high costs of mobile data, and digital literacy barriers among some farmers. These constraints hinder the full realization of the potential benefits of mobile technology in agricultural extension services in rural areas. Overall, the research underscores the significance of mobile technology as a powerful tool for enhancing agricultural extension services and improving the livelihoods of rural communities. The study provides valuable insights and recommendations for policymakers, extension agencies, and technology providers to address the challenges and maximize the opportunities presented by mobile technology in agricultural development. In conclusion, this thesis contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the impact of mobile technology on agricultural extension services in rural communities. The findings highlight the transformative potential of mobile technology in promoting sustainable agriculture, empowering farmers, and bridging the information gap in remote areas. This research sets a foundation for further studies and initiatives aimed at leveraging mobile technology for agricultural development and food security in rural communities.
