Abstract
This thesis presents an in-depth economic analysis of sustainable practices in smallholder farming within a specific region. Smallholder farmers play a crucial role in global food production and security, particularly in developing countries. However, these farmers often face numerous challenges that hinder their productivity and economic well-being. The study focuses on investigating the economic implications of adopting sustainable practices in smallholder farming to enhance productivity, environmental sustainability, and economic viability. The research methodology employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data analysis and qualitative assessments. A comprehensive literature review was conducted to explore existing knowledge on sustainable farming practices, economic impacts, and challenges faced by smallholder farmers. The study also involved field surveys and interviews with smallholder farmers, agricultural experts, and policymakers in the specific region to gather primary data and insights. Chapter 4 presents a detailed discussion of the research findings, highlighting the economic implications of sustainable practices in smallholder farming. The analysis reveals that adopting sustainable practices, such as agroecology, organic farming, and water conservation techniques, can lead to improved yields, reduced input costs, and enhanced environmental sustainability. These practices not only benefit the farmers economically but also contribute to long-term food security and environmental conservation. In conclusion, the study underscores the importance of promoting sustainable practices in smallholder farming to achieve economic prosperity, environmental sustainability, and food security. The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, agricultural stakeholders, and development agencies to formulate strategies and policies that support smallholder farmers in adopting sustainable practices. By enhancing the economic viability of smallholder farming, it is possible to build a more resilient and sustainable agricultural sector that can meet the growing global demand for food while preserving the environment for future generations.
