Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the intricate relationship between poverty, corruption, social policy, and social development in Nigeria. Nigeria, as a developing country, faces significant challenges in addressing poverty and achieving sustainable social development due to various interrelated factors. The pervasive issue of poverty in Nigeria has been exacerbated by widespread corruption, which undermines the effective implementation of social policies and hampers overall social development efforts. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data analysis with qualitative insights to provide a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics at play. By examining existing literature, government reports, and statistical data, the research will delve into the root causes of poverty in Nigeria and the impact of corruption on social policy implementation. Additionally, it will explore how social policies are formulated and implemented in Nigeria and assess their effectiveness in addressing poverty and promoting social development. One key focus of the study is to analyze the role of corruption in perpetuating poverty and hindering social development initiatives in Nigeria. Corruption not only diverts resources away from poverty alleviation programs but also erodes public trust in government institutions, leading to a lack of accountability and transparency in policy implementation. This, in turn, contributes to the cycle of poverty and undermines efforts to achieve sustainable social development. Furthermore, the research will examine the existing social policies in Nigeria and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses in addressing the multifaceted challenges of poverty and social development. By identifying gaps and inefficiencies in current policies, the study aims to provide recommendations for improving policy formulation and implementation processes to better serve the needs of the population and promote inclusive social development. Overall, this research project seeks to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on poverty, corruption, social policy, and social development in Nigeria. By shedding light on the complex interplay of these factors, the study aims to provide insights that can inform evidence-based policy decisions and interventions aimed at tackling poverty, combating corruption, and fostering sustainable social development in Nigeria.
