Project Abstract

This project aims to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the diversity and distribution of mammalian species across tropical and temperate ecosystems. Mammalian species are essential components of both terrestrial and aquatic environments, playing critical roles in maintaining ecosystem balance, nutrient cycling, and the provision of ecosystem services. Understanding the factors that influence mammalian diversity in different biomes is crucial for developing effective conservation strategies and predicting the potential impacts of environmental changes on these vital organisms. The project will focus on comparing the mammalian diversity, species richness, and community composition in selected tropical and temperate regions. Tropical ecosystems, such as rainforests and savannas, are renowned for their exceptionally high biodiversity, while temperate ecosystems, including deciduous forests and grasslands, exhibit unique adaptations and species assemblages. By analyzing and comparing the mammalian diversity in these contrasting environments, the study aims to elucidate the underlying drivers that shape the distribution and abundance of mammalian species. The research methodology will involve conducting field surveys and observations in designated study sites within tropical and temperate regions. Species identification, population counts, and the collection of relevant environmental data, such as climate, vegetation, and habitat characteristics, will be carried out. Advanced statistical techniques and modeling approaches will be employed to analyze the data and identify patterns, trends, and correlations between mammalian diversity and the abiotic and biotic factors of the respective ecosystems. One of the key objectives of this project is to investigate the impact of anthropogenic activities, such as habitat fragmentation, land-use changes, and climate change, on the mammalian communities in both tropical and temperate environments.
