Abstract
Osteoarthritis is a common degenerative joint disease in dogs, leading to pain, stiffness, and decreased mobility. Traditional treatments provide symptomatic relief but do not address the underlying cause of the disease. Stem cell therapy has emerged as a promising regenerative medicine approach for treating osteoarthritis by promoting tissue repair and regeneration. This research aims to explore the efficacy and safety of stem cell therapy in treating osteoarthritis in dogs. The study will commence with an introduction providing background information on osteoarthritis in dogs and the limitations of current treatment options. The problem statement will highlight the need for innovative therapies to improve the quality of life for dogs suffering from osteoarthritis. The objectives of the study include evaluating the therapeutic potential of stem cell therapy, determining its limitations, and assessing its overall impact on osteoarthritis management in dogs. The research methodology will involve a comprehensive literature review to examine existing studies on stem cell therapy for osteoarthritis in dogs. The review will focus on the mechanisms of action, types of stem cells used, treatment protocols, and clinical outcomes. Additionally, the methodology will include the selection of appropriate animal models, stem cell isolation and characterization, treatment administration, and outcome assessment. Findings from the study will be discussed in detail in Chapter Four, covering aspects such as the efficacy of stem cell therapy in reducing pain and inflammation, improving joint function, and promoting cartilage regeneration. The limitations of stem cell therapy, potential risks, and challenges in clinical translation will also be addressed. Furthermore, the significance of the study will be highlighted, emphasizing the potential impact of stem cell therapy on the future of osteoarthritis treatment in dogs. In conclusion, this research project will contribute to the growing body of knowledge on stem cell therapy for osteoarthritis in dogs. The findings will provide valuable insights into the efficacy, safety, and practical considerations of implementing stem cell therapy as a novel treatment modality for canine osteoarthritis.
