Project Abstract

This project aims to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the comparative efficacy of various diagnostic techniques for the detection and classification of canine mammary tumors. Canine mammary tumors are a significant health concern, accounting for up to 52% of all tumors in female dogs, making early and accurate diagnosis crucial for effective treatment and improved patient outcomes. The project will explore the strengths and limitations of commonly employed diagnostic methods, including physical examination, cytology, biopsy, and advanced imaging techniques, to provide veterinary practitioners with a deeper understanding of the most reliable and efficient approaches to canine mammary tumor diagnosis. The importance of this project lies in the fact that canine mammary tumors often exhibit similar characteristics to human breast cancer, making them a valuable model for comparative oncology research. By conducting a rigorous comparative analysis of diagnostic techniques, the project aims to contribute to the advancement of early detection and accurate classification of these tumors, ultimately leading to more personalized and effective treatment strategies for both canine and human patients. The project will involve a multifaceted approach, including a comprehensive literature review, retrospective data analysis, and a prospective study.
