Abstract
Male student enrollment in higher education institutions has been declining in recent years, prompting concerns about the reasons behind this downward trend. This study aims to investigate the factors responsible for the decrease in male students' enrollment and to identify potential strategies to address this issue. Through a mixed-methods approach, including surveys and interviews with male students, educators, and parents, the research will explore various factors contributing to the decline. Preliminary findings suggest that societal perceptions of masculinity and education play a significant role in deterring male students from pursuing higher education. Traditional gender norms and expectations may discourage boys from engaging in academic pursuits, leading to lower enrollment rates compared to their female counterparts. Additionally, the lack of male role models in the educational system and the workforce could also influence male students' decisions to pursue higher education. Furthermore, academic performance and career aspirations are crucial factors that impact male students' enrollment in higher education. The study will examine how academic achievement, interest in specific fields of study, and career goals influence male students' decisions regarding post-secondary education. By understanding these factors, educators and policymakers can develop targeted interventions to encourage more male students to enroll in higher education programs. Moreover, the research will investigate the role of support systems, including family and school environments, in shaping male students' attitudes towards education. Parental expectations, peer influences, and school resources are among the factors that will be examined to determine their impact on male students' enrollment decisions. By identifying the key influencers in male students' educational trajectories, this study aims to provide recommendations for fostering a more inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students. In conclusion, the decline in male students' enrollment in higher education institutions is a multifaceted issue that requires a comprehensive understanding of the underlying factors. By exploring the intersection of societal perceptions, academic performance, and support systems, this research seeks to shed light on the challenges facing male students and propose effective strategies to reverse the downward trend.
