Project Abstract

Abstract
Shorthand has long been considered a crucial skill for secretarial professionals, enabling them to transcribe spoken language quickly and accurately. However, there has been a notable high rate of failure in shorthand among students in the Department of Secretarial Studies at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in Enugu. This research project aims to investigate the factors contributing to this high failure rate and propose potential solutions to address the issue. The research methodology will involve both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Surveys and questionnaires will be distributed to students in the department to gather data on their experiences, challenges, and perceptions regarding shorthand. Additionally, interviews will be conducted with faculty members to obtain insights from their perspective. The data collected will be analyzed to identify common themes and patterns related to the failure in shorthand.
