Project Abstract

This project aims to explore the complex relationship between globalization and national sovereignty, a critical issue in the current geopolitical landscape. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, the traditional boundaries and autonomy of nation-states have come under scrutiny, raising important questions about the future of state power and the ability of governments to effectively govern their territories. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the ways in which globalization, characterized by the rapid flow of capital, people, ideas, and information across national borders, has challenged and reshaped the concept of national sovereignty. By examining case studies from diverse regions, the project will investigate how the forces of globalization, such as the rise of multinational corporations, the growth of international organizations, and the proliferation of transnational issues, have impacted the decision-making autonomy and policy-making capabilities of national governments. The research will delve into the theoretical underpinnings of national sovereignty, tracing its historical evolution and the various philosophical and political perspectives that have shaped its understanding. It will then analyze how these traditional notions of sovereignty have been tested and transformed by the realities of globalization, particularly in areas such as economic policy, environmental regulation, and human rights. The project will also explore the ways in which nation-states have responded to the challenges posed by globalization, examining strategies employed to maintain their sovereignty and autonomy.
