This research project aims to investigate the prevalence and implications of drug-drug interactions (DDIs) in elderly patients with multiple comorbidities. With the increasing aging population and the rise in the number of individuals managing multiple chronic conditions, the risk of DDIs has become a significant concern in healthcare. The study will focus on understanding the patterns, risk factors, and clinical outcomes associated with DDIs in this vulnerable patient population. The research will adopt a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of medical records and prescription data with qualitative interviews with healthcare providers and elderly patients themselves. By examining the prescription patterns and medication histories of elderly patients with multiple comorbidities, the study aims to identify common DDIs, assess their clinical impact, and explore potential strategies for prevention and management. The literature review will provide a comprehensive overview of existing research on DDIs in elderly patients, highlighting the gaps in current knowledge and underscoring the importance of tailored interventions to mitigate the risks associated with polypharmacy.
