Project Abstract

This project aims to investigate the significant environmental impacts associated with the improper management of pharmaceutical waste. Pharmaceutical products, once consumed or discarded, can have detrimental effects on ecosystems, wildlife, and human health if not handled and disposed of appropriately. The study will focus on exploring the various pathways through which pharmaceutical residues and byproducts enter the environment, the potential risks they pose, and the strategies that can be implemented to mitigate these environmental challenges. The importance of this project lies in the growing concern over the presence of pharmaceutical compounds in various environmental matrices, including surface water, groundwater, soil, and even drinking water sources. These compounds, often referred to as "emerging contaminants," have the potential to disrupt the delicate balance of ecosystems, leading to adverse effects on aquatic life, terrestrial organisms, and ultimately, human health. As the consumption and production of pharmaceuticals continue to rise globally, the need to understand and address the environmental implications of their improper disposal has become increasingly pressing.
