Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the impact of music therapy on pain management in older adults with chronic conditions. Chronic pain is a prevalent issue among the elderly population, often leading to decreased quality of life and functional limitations. Music therapy has been increasingly recognized as a non-pharmacological intervention that can effectively alleviate pain and improve overall well-being. However, there is a need for more empirical evidence to support the use of music therapy specifically in older adults with chronic conditions. The study will be conducted using a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data on the experiences and perceptions of older adults participating in music therapy programs for pain management. The research will involve a sample of older adults aged 65 and above, diagnosed with chronic conditions such as arthritis, neuropathy, or fibromyalgia, who are currently receiving music therapy as part of their pain management regimen. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the research topic, presenting the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the research, and definition of key terms. Chapter 2 comprises a detailed literature review that examines existing research on music therapy and pain management in older adults, highlighting the benefits and challenges associated with this intervention.
