Abstract
The rise of drug-resistant bacteria poses a significant threat to public health worldwide, necessitating the search for alternative antimicrobial agents. This research project focuses on exploring the antimicrobial properties of plant extracts as a potential solution to combat drug-resistant bacteria. The study aims to investigate the effectiveness of various plant extracts in inhibiting the growth of drug-resistant bacterial strains through in vitro experiments and analysis. The project begins with a comprehensive literature review that examines previous studies on plant extracts and their antimicrobial activities against drug-resistant bacteria. Various plant species known for their antimicrobial properties will be selected for extraction and testing in this study. The research methodology involves extraction of bioactive compounds from selected plant sources, preparation of bacterial cultures, and evaluation of antimicrobial activity through disc diffusion and broth microdilution assays. The findings from this research project will be presented and discussed in Chapter Four, highlighting the effectiveness of specific plant extracts in inhibiting the growth of drug-resistant bacterial strains. The results will be analyzed in relation to the concentrations of bioactive compounds present in the plant extracts and their potential mechanisms of action against drug-resistant bacteria. In conclusion, this research project aims to contribute valuable insights into the antimicrobial properties of plant extracts and their potential application in combating drug-resistant bacteria. The significance of this study lies in the exploration of natural alternatives to conventional antibiotics, which could help address the growing concern of antimicrobial resistance. By elucidating the antimicrobial potential of plant extracts, this research seeks to pave the way for the development of novel antimicrobial agents derived from natural sources to combat drug-resistant bacteria and improve public health outcomes.
