Project Abstract

Abstract
The emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria poses a significant threat to public health worldwide, highlighting the urgent need for alternative antimicrobial agents. In this study, we investigated the antimicrobial properties of plant extracts as potential solutions to combat antibiotic resistance. The primary objective was to assess the effectiveness of various plant extracts against antibiotic-resistant bacteria through a series of laboratory experiments. The research methodology involved the collection of plant samples from different sources, extraction of bioactive compounds using various solvents, and screening for antimicrobial activity through disc diffusion and broth dilution assays. Additionally, the study evaluated the cytotoxicity of the plant extracts on human cells to ensure safety for potential therapeutic use. The literature review provided a comprehensive overview of the current understanding of antibiotic resistance, the mechanisms involved, and the challenges associated with traditional antibiotic therapy. It also highlighted previous studies on the antimicrobial properties of plant extracts and their potential applications in combating antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The findings of this study revealed that several plant extracts exhibited significant antimicrobial activity against a range of antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains. Interestingly, some plant extracts demonstrated superior antimicrobial efficacy compared to conventional antibiotics. Furthermore, the cytotoxicity assays indicated that the plant extracts were generally safe for human cells at the concentrations tested, suggesting their potential as novel antimicrobial agents. The discussion of the research findings emphasized the importance of exploring natural products as alternative antimicrobial agents in the era of antibiotic resistance. The study also addressed the limitations and challenges encountered during the experimental process, such as standardization of extract preparation and variability in antimicrobial activity among different plant species. In conclusion, the investigation of plant extracts for their antimicrobial properties against antibiotic-resistant bacteria represents a promising avenue for future research and drug development. The significance of this study lies in the potential discovery of new therapeutic agents from natural sources that could help address the growing threat of antibiotic resistance. Further research is warranted to elucidate the mechanisms of action of these plant extracts and optimize their efficacy for clinical applications. Keywords antibiotic resistance, plant extracts, antimicrobial properties, cytotoxicity, alternative therapies.
