Indigenous book publishing in Nigeria faces several challenges that hinder its growth and sustainability. This research project delves into the problems encountered by indigenous book publishers in the country and seeks to provide insights into potential solutions to these issues. The study focuses on factors such as limited funding, a lack of distribution networks, inadequate government support, and the dominance of foreign-published books in the market. One of the primary challenges faced by indigenous book publishers in Nigeria is the limited availability of funding for publishing projects. Many local publishers struggle to secure financing for their operations, which impacts their ability to produce high-quality books and compete effectively in the market. Additionally, the lack of distribution networks further exacerbates this issue, as publishers struggle to reach a wider audience and generate sufficient sales revenue. Furthermore, the inadequate support from the government poses a significant obstacle to the growth of indigenous book publishing in Nigeria. The absence of policies and initiatives to promote local publishing not only hinders the industry's development but also contributes to the dominance of foreign-published books in the market. This dominance further marginalizes indigenous publishers and limits their market share and influence. In response to these challenges, this research project explores potential solutions to support and promote indigenous book publishing in Nigeria. Strategies such as increased funding opportunities, the establishment of distribution networks, and government incentives for local publishers are discussed as potential ways to address the problems facing the industry. Additionally, initiatives to promote a reading culture and support local authors are proposed as ways to enhance the demand for indigenous books. Overall, this research project sheds light on the critical issues affecting indigenous book publishing in Nigeria and offers recommendations to overcome these challenges. By addressing the funding constraints, distribution issues, lack of government support, and market dominance of foreign-published books, the study aims to support the growth and sustainability of the local publishing industry. Through collaborative efforts between stakeholders, including publishers, authors, government agencies, and readers, the potential exists to create a more vibrant and diverse literary landscape in Nigeria.
