The use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in processing information resources by Technical Services Departments (TSDs) presents both challenges and prospects. This research project aims to investigate the current state of availability and utilization of ICT in TSDs, focusing on the obstacles faced and the potential benefits that can be realized. The challenges identified include limited funding for ICT infrastructure, inadequate ICT skills among TSD staff, resistance to change from traditional manual processes, and issues related to data security and privacy. These challenges hinder the efficient processing of information resources within TSDs and impact the overall effectiveness of library services. On the other hand, there are significant prospects associated with the availability and effective utilization of ICT in TSDs. These include improved workflow efficiency, enhanced access to digital information resources, increased collaboration and communication among staff members, and the potential for automation of routine tasks. By harnessing ICT tools and technologies, TSDs can streamline their operations, provide better services to users, and stay relevant in the digital age. To address the challenges and leverage the prospects, TSDs need to prioritize investment in ICT infrastructure, provide training programs to enhance staff ICT skills, develop strategies for managing change effectively, and implement robust data security measures. Collaboration with IT departments and external vendors can also help TSDs overcome technological barriers and optimize their use of ICT in processing information resources.
