Abstract
The internet has become an integral part of the daily operations of libraries and librarians. This study aims to explore the various uses of internet facilities by librarians in their professional roles. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, including surveys and interviews with librarians from different types of libraries. The findings reveal that librarians use the internet for a wide range of purposes, including information retrieval, professional development, communication, and outreach. The study found that the internet is a valuable tool for librarians to access a vast amount of information resources, such as online databases, e-journals, and digital repositories. Librarians rely on online resources to assist patrons in their research needs and provide up-to-date information on various topics. Furthermore, librarians utilize the internet for professional development by attending webinars, online courses, and virtual conferences to enhance their skills and knowledge. Communication is another significant use of the internet by librarians, who use email, social media platforms, and instant messaging to collaborate with colleagues, share information, and engage with their communities. The study also revealed that librarians leverage the internet for outreach activities by promoting library services and events through websites, blogs, and social media channels. Online platforms enable librarians to reach a wider audience and connect with users beyond the physical boundaries of the library. Moreover, the research identified challenges faced by librarians in utilizing internet facilities, such as information overload, privacy concerns, digital literacy issues, and access barriers in underserved communities. Librarians expressed the need for training opportunities to enhance their digital skills and navigate the evolving online environment effectively. Additionally, the study highlighted the importance of developing policies and guidelines to ensure the ethical and responsible use of the internet in library settings. In conclusion, this research sheds light on the multifaceted uses of the internet facilities by librarians and underscores the significance of integrating digital technologies into library services. The findings provide valuable insights for library administrators, policymakers, and educators to support librarians in harnessing the full potential of the internet for professional growth and community engagement.
