Project Abstract

Abstract
Fibroids are common noncancerous tumors found in the uterus, affecting a significant number of women during their reproductive years. The management of fibroids has evolved over time, with various treatment options available, ranging from conservative approaches to more invasive procedures. Recent advancements in the treatment of fibroids have expanded the choices for patients, offering individualized care based on the size, location, and symptoms associated with the fibroids. Recent treatments for fibroids include minimally invasive procedures such as uterine artery embolization (UAE) and magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS). UAE involves blocking the blood supply to the fibroids, leading to their shrinkage and symptom relief. MRgFUS uses high-intensity ultrasound waves to destroy the fibroids while preserving the surrounding healthy tissue. These procedures are associated with shorter recovery times and less postoperative pain compared to traditional surgical interventions. Orthodox treatments for fibroids encompass a range of options, including medication, surgical interventions, and hysterectomy. Medications such as gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRHa) can help shrink fibroids temporarily by inducing a state of menopause. Surgical treatments like myomectomy involve the removal of the fibroids while preserving the uterus, making it a suitable option for women who wish to retain their fertility. Hysterectomy, the surgical removal of the uterus, is considered a definitive treatment for fibroids but is usually reserved for cases where other interventions have been unsuccessful or when the fibroids are causing severe symptoms. The choice of treatment for fibroids depends on factors such as the patient's age, desire for future fertility, size and location of the fibroids, and the severity of symptoms. A multidisciplinary approach involving gynecologists, interventional radiologists, and other healthcare providers is essential to tailor the treatment plan to the individual needs of the patient. In conclusion, the management of fibroids has seen significant advancements in recent years, offering patients a wide array of treatment options to address their symptoms and improve their quality of life. By considering the benefits and risks of each treatment modality, healthcare providers can work collaboratively with patients to determine the most suitable approach for managing fibroids effectively.
