Abstract
This research study explores the impact of community gardens on food security in rural areas. The project aims to investigate how community gardens contribute to enhancing food security among rural populations, particularly in terms of improving access to fresh and nutritious foods. The study will also examine the socio-economic and environmental factors that influence the success and sustainability of community gardens in addressing food security challenges in rural communities. The research will be conducted using a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. Surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions will be utilized to gather information from community garden participants, local residents, and key stakeholders involved in food security initiatives in rural areas. Data analysis will involve both statistical techniques and thematic analysis to provide a comprehensive understanding of the impact of community gardens on food security. The literature review will explore existing research on community gardens, food security, and sustainable agriculture practices in rural settings. This review will provide a theoretical framework for understanding the relationship between community gardens and food security, as well as identify gaps in current knowledge that the research aims to address. The research methodology section will detail the research design, sampling strategy, data collection methods, and data analysis techniques to be employed in the study. The research will be conducted in multiple rural communities selected based on their engagement with community gardening initiatives and the prevalence of food insecurity in the area. Findings from the study will be presented and discussed in Chapter Four, highlighting the key factors that contribute to the success of community gardens in improving food security in rural areas. The discussion will also explore the challenges and barriers faced by community gardens, as well as potential strategies for overcoming these obstacles to enhance their impact on food security. In conclusion, this research project aims to contribute to the growing body of knowledge on community gardens and their role in promoting food security in rural areas. The findings of the study are expected to provide valuable insights for policymakers, community organizations, and practitioners working to address food insecurity and promote sustainable food systems in rural communities. Ultimately, the research seeks to advocate for the expansion and support of community gardening initiatives as a means of improving food security and fostering community resilience in rural areas.
