Abstract
Climate change poses a significant threat to global food security and sustainable livelihoods, particularly in rural communities that rely heavily on agriculture for their sustenance. This research project aims to analyze the impact of climate change on household food security and sustainable livelihoods in rural communities, with a focus on understanding the challenges faced and exploring potential solutions to mitigate the adverse effects. Through a comprehensive literature review, this study examines the existing knowledge on the relationship between climate change, food security, and livelihood sustainability, highlighting the key factors contributing to vulnerability in rural areas. The research methodology involves a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data collection through surveys and qualitative data analysis through interviews and focus group discussions. The study will be conducted in several rural communities selected based on their susceptibility to climate change impacts, with a sample size representing a diverse range of socio-economic backgrounds. The data collected will be analyzed using statistical tools and thematic analysis to identify patterns and trends in the impact of climate change on food security and livelihood sustainability. In the findings chapter, the research will present a detailed analysis of the data collected, highlighting the specific challenges faced by rural households in ensuring food security and sustaining their livelihoods in the face of changing climatic conditions. Factors such as changing rainfall patterns, temperature fluctuations, and extreme weather events will be examined in relation to their impact on agricultural productivity, food availability, and income generation opportunities. The research will also explore the coping strategies adopted by rural communities to adapt to these challenges and assess their effectiveness in enhancing resilience and sustainability. The conclusion and summary chapter will provide a comprehensive overview of the key findings, implications, and recommendations derived from the research. The study aims to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on climate change adaptation in rural communities, offering insights into effective strategies for enhancing household food security and sustainable livelihoods in the face of environmental uncertainties. By understanding the complex interplay between climate change, food security, and livelihood sustainability, this research seeks to inform policy and practice interventions that can build resilience and promote long-term sustainability in rural areas.
