Abstract
The phenomenon of Urban Heat Islands (UHIs) has gained significant attention in recent years due to its adverse impacts on urban environments, public health, and overall quality of life. As global temperatures continue to rise as a result of climate change, the exacerbation of UHIs poses a pressing challenge for urban planners and policymakers. This research project aims to investigate the impact of climate change on Urban Heat Islands, focusing on the causes, consequences, and potential mitigation strategies. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the research topic, presenting the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, and the structure of the research. This chapter also includes the definition of key terms relevant to the study, establishing a clear foundation for the subsequent chapters. Chapter 2 presents a comprehensive literature review that explores existing research on UHIs, climate change, and their interconnectedness. The review examines various factors contributing to the formation and intensification of UHIs, as well as the impacts of UHIs on urban ecosystems, human health, and social equity. Additionally, this chapter identifies previous studies on mitigation and adaptation strategies employed to address UHIs in urban areas. Chapter 3 outlines the research methodology employed in this study, detailing the research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, and data analysis procedures.
