Urban heat islands (UHIs) have become a significant concern in cities experiencing rapid growth and urbanization. This research focuses on analyzing UHIs in a specific city undergoing rapid expansion to understand the extent of this phenomenon and its implications. The case study city chosen for this research provides a unique opportunity to investigate the impact of urban development on local temperature patterns and associated challenges. The study begins with a comprehensive introduction that outlines the background of the research, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure, and key definitions. The literature review in Chapter Two delves into ten critical aspects related to UHIs, including their causes, effects on urban environments and residents, mitigation strategies, and global trends in UHI research. This review provides a solid foundation for understanding the complexities of UHIs and the current state of knowledge in the field. Chapter Three details the research methodology employed to analyze UHIs in the selected city. It includes discussions on data collection methods, measurement techniques, spatial analysis tools, and statistical approaches used to assess the urban heat island effect. The methodology section also covers the selection criteria for study sites, sampling techniques, and data analysis procedures, ensuring the reliability and validity of the research findings. In Chapter Four, the research findings are presented and discussed in detail. Seven key themes emerge from the analysis, shedding light on the spatial distribution of UHIs in the city, the factors influencing their intensity, and the potential implications for urban planning and public health. The discussion section critically examines the results in the context of existing literature, highlighting both consistencies and disparities with previous studies while offering new insights into the dynamics of UHIs in rapidly growing urban areas.
